Maternity portraits

I recently photographed a young Kinston couple expecting their first child.  Maternity sessions can be intimidating when you don't always feel great.  Your body is going through so many changes, you may be hesitant about choosing this session.  I can make your experience fun and relaxed!  I
know how to use comfortable poses, dramatic lighting, complimentary fabrics, and careful retouching so that the final images showcase you at your best.

It is generally recommended to plan your maternity photography session in the late second or early third trimester. You want to be clearly showing but still feel comfortable enough to enjoy the process.  Earlier than that and the belly may not be prominent enough, later than that and you may feel uncomfortable. But every woman and every pregnancy is different, so listening to your body is always a good idea.

Wear one of your favorite maternity outfits! Something comfortable and flattering to your form.  Thin clingy material that will show off your form.  Avoid anything that hangs off the belly. It's really important to capture the under-belly shape.   Solid colors work best -- avoid busy patterns which can be distracting.  I have an assortment of fabric wraps that give an intimate look while keeping things discreet.  A pair of pre maternity jeans with the top unbuttoned shows your body changes.  Tube tops can be used to accentuate the belly with jeans or a fabric wrap.  A man's over sized white shirt buttoned part way down is always a good idea.   Avoid heavy jewlery.  It takes the eye away from the subject which is your belly.  BE SURE TO WEAR MAKEUP AND PAINT YOUR FINGER AND TOENAILS!

If your husband is involved in the session, he should bring khakies or other dark pants, a solid white shirt and seveal dark shirts.  Through in a white and black crew neck tee shirt also.  SYBILINGS ARE ALWAYS WELCOMED!

I encourage you to bring something from the baby's nursery or something that holds special meaning to you.  A special outfit, shoes, a stuffed animal or rattle.  Even blocks spelling out the baby's name or a copy of the ultra sound!

I want this to be a special experience that celebrates your pregnancy and the beginning of your little one's journey.  This is a way to document your beauty and feelings during this milestone of your life.  Your child will appreciate these portraits and the love you had for them since the very beginning.
